Man Utd doubt creeps in over move for deadly Serie A attacker who may not ‘justify’ huge fee

Manchester United and Real Madrid both reportedly have ‘doubts’ over the potential signing of Dusan Vlahovic, as both are unsure he would ‘justify a high outlay’.

Vlahovic was a man in high demand before he made the switch to Juventus last January. Indeed, the Old Lady were joined by Arsenal and Tottenham in their pursuit.

The Gunners seemed particularly keen to land the Serbian forward. After he had netted 17 goals in 21 Serie A games to that point last season, it’s little wonder why.

Juventus managed to beat the competition, though, snaring him for a fee rising to around £90million.

Since that move, he’s continued his good goalscoring form. Indeed, Vlahovic has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 17 Serie A games this season, though an injury has hindered his playing time.

Amid his good form, suitors have remained. Indeed, Manchester United are one of the sides that hold an interest in the forward, and Juventus apparently ‘won’t stand against a big-money offer’.

Whether or not they get that remains to be seen. Reports previously have suggested Vlahovic would command a fee in the range of £88million to £105million.

However, United and another interested side, Real Madrid, are apparently having second thoughts over whether Vlahovic is worth that or not.

Indeed, Calciomercato reports there are ‘doubts’ that are ‘holding back the deal’ for either of those sides. Those are the ‘cost of the operation’ coupled with the ‘performance’ Vlahovic is putting in.

His performances at the moment reportedly ‘would not justify such a high outlay’.

Indeed, in his last seven Serie A games, the forward has scored twice and assisted once. Those games all followed the period that he spent on the sidelines through injury.

As such, it would be fair to assume that he’s simply not gotten back to his best yet. United and Real will have the rest of the season to assess him and decide whether or not it’s worth dropping a big sum as he potentially gets back up to speed.

United have their eyes on a few other strikers. Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane are both reportedly dominating their thinking at the moment.

As such, if Vlahovic is deemed not good enough, they’ll likely just pursue on of those stars. There would probably not be much difference in the price of either of those men compared to what Juventus will ask for in order to sell Vlahovic.
