Man Utd striker Edinson Cavani is keen on a move to Barcelona in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Uruguayan impressed last season for the Red Devils, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists in all competitions, which was enough for him to sign a new deal at the club for this campaign.

However, his time on the pitch has been a little more limited so far this term with Cavani only playing 273 minutes in all competitions for Man Utd.

The 34-year-old has already been linked with Barcelona over the past couple of months as they look to find a striker to help cover the absence of Sergio Aguero.

New Barca boss Xavi has limited options up front after reports that the former Manchester City striker could have to retire from football with a heart issue.

And now Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claim Cavani could be the one to solve the ‘lack of goals’ at the Camp Nou and the striker ‘would love to wear’ the Barcelona shirt.

Sources ‘close to the player’ have told the Spanish newspaper that Cavani sees it as a ‘great challenge’ with a move to Barcelona seen as the ‘icing on the cake’ for his career.

It is understood money might not be a stumbling block either with the former Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain striker ‘sympathetic to their financial difficulties’.

Meanwhile, Cavani has revealed he spent the international break in Uruguay as he attempted to return to full fitness.

“During this period of the international break, I’ve had the chance to stop and focus on this niggling injury that I’m feeling in the tendon in my leg,” Cavani told the Man Utd website. “So I can speed up my recovery and come back quickly and be available for my club and national team.

“So, during this time, I was able to spend a few days in Uruguay, do some fitness and recovery work and stuff and, in turn, I managed to see my family at the same time, which is always important, to see your family and be close to them.”
