Man Utd face ’embarrassing’ Wan-Bissaka fate as they pursue €15m Bundesliga right-back

Man Utd are hoping to loan or sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka with Crystal Palace interested in re-signing the right-back, according to reports.

The Red Devils are hoping to sign a right-back before the transfer window closes on August 31 and have been linked with Barcelona’s Sergino Dest this week.

Diogo Dalot has established himself as the club’s first-choice right-back with Wan-Bissaka warming the bench as things stand.

Erik ten Hag does not appear to be keen on the 24-year-old defender, who joined Man Utd for £50million in 2019.

Wan-Bissaka played 100 times across all competitions in his first two seasons at Old Trafford.

His game time rapidly declined last term after playing the full 90 minutes of Man Utd’s opening 13 Premier League fixtures.

He suffered an injury and missed a win against Arsenal, and was then dropped for Ralf Rangnick’s first three matches in charge.

Wan-Bissaka came back into the starting XI twice before missing another three encounters through illness.

Regular minutes have been very hard to come by since then and now Man Utd could make a gargantuan loss on the player before the transfer window closes in two weeks.

According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils are ‘hoping’ to offload Wan-Bissaka, whether it be on a temporary or permanent basis.

The player’s former club Crystal Palace are believed to be interested and are willing to pay £10m, which would be a ‘huge and embarrassing’ £40m loss for Man Utd.

With Ten Hag on the search for a new right-back to compete with Dalot, the club are looking at the possibility of signing Borussia Dortmund and Belgium defender Thomas Meunier, the report adds.

Man Utd are yet to make an offer for the former Paris Saint-Germain player but they are thought to be preparing a €15m (£12.6m) bid.

It is unclear whether or not Dortmund will sell this month, with Meunier also attracting interest from Barcelona.

The 30-year-old is a ‘more likely’ target than Barca’s Sergino Dest, who Spanish media are saying is close to joining the Premier League club.

It is added that the Red Devils were actually interested in signing Meunier before bringing in Wan-Bissaka.

The Telegraph also provide an update on Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro and Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic.

They confirm Man Utd’s interest in Pulisic by saying the club are hoping to land him on loan.

Meanwhile, a deal to sign Casemiro actually appears quite likely, which may be a surprise for some.

Having achieved everything in the Spanish capital, the Brazilian midfielder may seek a new challenge, much like his former teammate Raphael Varane did. That’s going well so far.

Real Madrid will apparently accept a £50m bid, which is a decent deal all things considered, though the 30-year-old will likely demand astronomical wages and at least four years on his contract, you’d think.

Having signed Aurelien Tchouameni for £80m this summer, Madrid will not stand in Casemiro’s way should he wish to move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ pursuit of Adrien Rabiot has collapsed, and they are struggling to convince Frenkie de Jong to leave Barcelona, so the experienced Brazil international is being lined up as a surprising, but excellent, alternative.

Barca accepted an €85m bid from Man Utd for De Jong, so the Premier League club are working with a pretty tight budget as they are reluctant to use that money even though Ten Hag desperately needs a midfielder and is also hoping to land a striker, versatile forward and right-back.
