Fulham baulk at ‘prohibitive’ asking price for Man Utd star as they refuse to pursue a transfer

Man Utd are currently asking too much for Fred with Fulham refusing to pursue a deal while the asking price remains the same, according to reports.

The Red Devils are willing to allow the Brazilian to go this summer for the right price with his game time reduced over the past season under Erik ten Hag.

Fred and fellow midfielder Scott McTominay suffered from the signings of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer with their minutes on the pitch reduced.

The Brazilian only has a year left on his contract at Old Trafford and the Daily Telegraph have claimed that Fulham are interested in buying Fred after Man Utd put him ‘up for sale’.

It is understood that the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder ‘would be interested in a move to Craven Cottage’ but Fulham are hoping ‘a compromise can be reached’ over his fee as they are not willing to pay £20m for his services.

The Daily Telegraph adds:

‘Fulham have registered their interest in the 30-year-old but, so far, have not held any detailed discussions over the financial structure of a deal.

‘It is believed that Fred, who will not be offered a new deal at United, would be willing to join Fulham and work under head coach Marco Silva.’

Sky Sports understands that Fulham ‘won’t be pursuing a deal’ are the current time due to the ‘prohibitive’ valuation that Man Utd have put on his head.

The report on their blog said:

‘Fulham are in the market to strengthen in midfield with Manchester United’s Fred one of a number of players they’ve looked at.

‘As it stands, they won’t be pursuing a deal as they understand the price to be prohibitive.

‘Fred has a year left on his contract at United and Sky Sports News reported last month his future at the club is under discussion.’

When asked about his future straight after Man Utd lost to Man City in the FA Cup final, Fred said: “I still don’t know, I have to talk with my family, I still have one year left in my contract here.

“Now it’s holidays’ time and a good opportunity to rest. I’ll talk to my staff, to the club and see what is everyone’s decision.

“I do have to talk with Ten Hag as well, he’s the manager and the conversation has to involve everyone.

“We have to see how next season will plan out. I want to be important, I want to help the team, so we’ll see. But I’ve always been and still am very happy at Manchester United.

“Of course, I always want to be playing, to be helping my team and gladly I started and I think we played well.”
