Manchester United have one advantage over Tottenham in the race for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to reports.

United first registered their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Fernandes at the start of the year, with Solskjaer eager to add creativity and a goalscoring threat to his midfield.

Fernandes scored 32 goals and assisted a further 18 in 53 games this past season, and has been identified as an ideal signing.

But executive vice-chairman Woodward is apparently ‘hesitant’ to match the Portugal international’s huge release clause, much to Solskjaer’s chagrin.

United and Tottenham continue to be linked with a move for Fernandes on Wednesday with Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha taking Fernandes’ latest Instagram post as a ‘farewell’ to the club, despite only thanking the Sporting fans.

And it’s another Portuguese publication O Jogo (via Sports Witness) that brings more news of a transfer by claiming Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, is flying to England to speak with United and Spurs.

The report even suggests something could happen this week with Sporting braced for ‘important developments’.

Sport Witness add that some reports in Portugal see United having an ‘advantage’ over Spurs due to their the Old Trafford club’s ability to stump up the cash without having to sell players first.
