According to reports, Man Utd are ‘trying to hijack’ Lyon’s attempts to sign Netherlands international Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

The left-back progressed through the ranks at Feyenoord. He has played 136 times for them over the past five seasons in the Netherlands.

The 22-year-old has played for his country at youth level and he made his debut for their senior side last year. He has now played five times under Louis van Gaal.

Pochettino wants Premier League return after PSG exit but where would he fit?

Malacia shone for Feyenoord last season, playing 50 times across all competitions. He was named in the Team of the Tournament for the Europa Conference League.

Man Utd were first linked with the defender at the start of May. According to Fabrizio Romano, Malacia has a ‘full verbal agreement’ to join Lyon.

Romano is reporting though that United have ‘jumped in’ before this transfer was completed. They are ‘trying to hijack’ his move to Lyon.

It is noted that Malacia has the same agent as Man Utd target Frenkie de Jong. United’s ‘fresh proposal’ to Feyenoord is worth €15m plus add-ons.

Feyenoord director – Frank Arnesen – has now confirmed these reports, stating that Malacia’s move to United is potentially “imminent”:

“The agreement with Man United is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell,”

“If Malacia says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent”.

Elsewhere, Barcelona and Manchester United have reportedly finally agreed a fee over a deal to send Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford.

The two clubs have been locked in negotiations for several weeks but there has reportedly been a breakthrough.

According to multiple reports, including Sky Sports, United have agreed to pay €65m guaranteed plus add-ons.

The report claims that Barcelona and the Red Devils have a “broad agreement” on the fee which is expected to include performance-related bonuses.

Discussions over “finer details” are continuing but the Premier League side are “confident” they will capture Erik ten Hag’s top target.

Meanwhile, personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block.

De Jong played under Ten Hag at Ajax and was a part of the squad that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

This deal was progressing very slowly, however, it would appear Man Utd have got their man. Ten Hag was especially keen to get the 25-year-old through the door following the exits of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
