Manchester have been given hope in their bid to sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton as a report reveals the striker was ‘very conflicted’ over his new Seagulls contract.

It was claimed at the start of the summer that Ferguson was on Man Utd’s shortlist of striker options and the Red Devils still have a ‘strong interest’ in the Republic or Ireland international, who impressed in a breakthrough season for Brighton.

They have since moved on to other options and reports suggest they’re making progress in their bid to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, with the Denmark international said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford.

But Football Transfers claim Ferguson – who is known to be a Man Utd fan – was ‘very conflicted before signing a new deal at Brighton last season’.

The report adds: ‘We are informed that Man Utd will eventually be his likely destination, whether that comes in 2024 or beyond.’

Football Transfers also claim Man Utd ‘will make an offer for Harry Kane’ if they can sell a helluva lot of players and may use Anthony Martial as a makeweight.

Kane was Ten Hag’s top striker target this summer but appeared to have cooled their interest having been told they would need to pay over £100m to land the England captain.

But United will reportedly still bid for Kane if (and it’s a big if) they can sell Harry Maguire, Dean Henderson, Fred and Scott McTominay, though a report on Sunday revealed that Ten Hag now wants to keep McTominay at the club.

Man Utd could also use Martial in a swap deal for Kane because, as the report states, Tottenham still have ‘affection’ for the Frenchman, whom they made a bid for in 2015 when he signed a new contract at Monaco.

It feels likely now though that neither Kane or Ferguson will move to United this summer due to their progress over Hojlund.

After having a £30m bid rejected for the Atalanta forward, the club are hopeful that a bid of around £50m will be enough to sign him.

And it’s claimed they have already reached a a ‘verbal agreement’ with Hojlund over ‘personal terms’.
