Premier League side Man Utd are still monitoring a potential move for RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko this summer, according to reports.
The Red Devils are still on the lookout for a new striker in the summer transfer window with Erik ten Hag keen to take some of the goalscoring burden away from Marcus Rashford.
Man Utd still haven’t replaced Cristiano Ronaldo on a permanent basis after he left Old Trafford by mutual consent in November following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan.
Ten Hag was finally able to add a new striker to his squad in January with the addition of Wout Weghorst on a loan deal from Burnley until the end of the season.
It seems unlikely that Weghorst – who is yet to score a Premier League goal for Man Utd – will be part of Ten Hag’s long-term plans, while there are also rumours that injury-prone Anthony Martial will finally leave permanently.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos are among the names linked with a move to Old Trafford as they eye a prolific goalscorer,
19-year-old Sesko has proved that he’s a good finisher since getting regular game time at RB Salzburg with the Slovenia international hitting 15 goals in 34 Austrian Bundesliga appearances this term.
Spanish publication Fichajes claims that Man Utd are ‘betting on’ the signing of Osimhen this summer but Sesko is being lined up ‘in case of not being able to close the arrival of the Nigerian attacker’.
Quite how Man Utd are going to pull off the transfer, with Sesko already agreeing a five-year deal with Salzburg’s sister club RB Leipzig, is anyone’s guess.
But the Premier League club see him as a ‘reliable alternative’ to Osimhen and Fichajes insist that Sesko ‘might not even make his debut’ for Leipzig ‘due to the interest of the Red Devils in taking over his services’.
Man Utd are seen as the ‘ideal destination’ for Sesko with Ten Hag’s reputation for being brave enough to play young players a deciding factor.
The Spanish website also bring us the news that Ten Hag has identified the ‘heir’ to David de Gea’s throne at Man Utd with his potential contract renewal ‘not going well’.
De Gea recently turned down their opening offer with the Red Devils looking to lower his wages and now Man Utd are looking to ‘find a new guardian for their goal’.
And they ‘have found it’ in Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, a player who Ten Hag ‘knows perfectly’ from his time at Ajax, and the Man Utd boss ‘knows that he can have a stellar role at Old Trafford’.
