Manchester United is the ‘only club’ Antonio Conte would consider joining mid-season as the Red Devils ‘make initial contact’ with the former Chelsea boss.

United were smashed 5-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday to put Solskjaer under extreme pressure.

The United players have reportedly ‘lost faith’ and the bosses are in talks over the Norwegian’s future at the club.

One man linked with Solskjaer’s job is Antonio Conte, who won the Premier League with Chelsea and left his post as Inter Milan boss in the summer.

And Sky Italy are claiming United have ‘made initial contact’ with the Italian over taking the helm at Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano earlier stated that there had been no official talks, but claimed Conte ‘would be prepared to talk about the project’.

The journalist added that while it’s not in Conte’s ‘style’ to join a team midway through a season ‘the only club right now that could change Antonio’s mind is Manchester United’.

Gary Neville doesn’t believe Conte is the right man for the job.

He said: “They won’t bring a hitman in again. A hitman who comes in and does a job for two years.

“Conte’s available but I wouldn’t bring him to Manchester United. I wouldn’t bring him here now, I wouldn’t.

“I don’t think Antonio Conte is a fit for Manchester United. I don’t think he’s a fit.

“I might be wrong, they might bring him here tomorrow and I’d get behind him.

“We’ve seen a coach with a specific style like Louis van Gaal didn’t work here. I’m not saying there isn’t a manager who can come to Manchester United and do well.”
