Man Utd have made contact over the possible transfer of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Kouadio Kone, according to reports.
New Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is looking to bring in a number of new faces this summer but it will be short of the ten signings Ralf Rangnick suggested the club needed before next season.
One report has insisted that Ten Hag will get between £100m and £150m to help him rebuild a ‘toxic’ dressing room and a squad lacking in confidence.
A key area of the team that Ten Hag reportedly wants to strengthen is their midfield with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba both likely to leave the club this summer.
Frenkie de Jong, Declan Rice, N’Golo Kante and Aurelien Tchouameni are among the names that have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the next window but Man Utd are yet to secure a signing.
Barcelona midfielder De Jong has been particularly heavily linked with Man Utd as he used to play at Ajax under Ten Hag with reports that the new boss at Old Trafford wants to make him the ‘cornerstone’ of his project.
But they are looking for alternatives too with L’Equipe (via Get French Football News) insisting that Man Utd have ‘initiated contacts’ over the potential signing of Kone from Gladbach.
Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also interested with ‘a host of clubs across Europe keeping an eye on him’ after an impressive first season in the Bundesliga.
Gladbach announced his signing in January 2021 but Kone stayed at Ligue 2 side Toulouse for another six months before moving to Germany last summer.
Kone, who has a contract until 2025, has scored three goals in 29 appearances from central midfield as Gladbach finished tenth in the Bundesliga table.
The report adds that the Frenchman is ‘reflecting on his future’ with Rangnick showing interest in the midfielder for ‘several years now’.
On Thursday, a report claimed that Man Utd were ‘desperate’ for De Jong to give them an answer on whether he wants to join the club as they try to plan their recruitment under Ten Hag.
