Man Utd learn new ‘discount’ price for Ten Hag’s top striker target as club ‘lay groundwork’
Man Utd will reportedly be able to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur at a ‘discount’ price during this summer’s transfer window.
It is common knowledge that United are in the market for a new striker heading into this summer’s transfer window.
Wout Weghorst is only on loan at United and his recent form is unlikely to earn him a permanent move to Old Trafford. Anthony Martial meanwhile has impressed at times but he has missed most of this campaign due to injury.
Kane is a potential target for Man Utd as he is yet to commit his future to Spurs. His current contract at Tottenham is due to expire in 2024.
The striker previously looked to leave Spurs in 2021 when Man City were interested in him, but it is yet to be seen whether he will pursue a transfer this summer.
A transfer may be more realistic this summer given the player’s contract situation. Though it is worth noting that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is always a tough negotiator when it comes to selling the club’s players.
It has been claimed this week that Erik ten Hag is ‘obsessed’ with Kane but United also have Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos on their radar in case their move for the Englishman does not come to fruition.
Now Football Insider are reporting that Man Utd ‘could sign Kane at a £15m discount’ this summer.
The Red Devils are understood to be ‘hopeful’ of acquiring Kane for £85m plus add-ons. Tottenham’s asked price for Kane is £100m ‘but a lower fee of £85m is now more likely’.
The report adds: ‘United are laying the groundwork behind the scenes to land him in the summer.’

Kane has a chance to impress Ten Hag when Spurs face Man Utd in the Premier League on Thursday night. The Dutchman has revealed that he has a “plan” to stop the striker.
“It’s quite clear his impact on the game from Spurs,” United boss Ten Hag said.
“We have a plan of course for that. In the home game we did very well, so for tomorrow we need a very good plan as well.
“You have to defend him as a team. He’s a clever player, so don’t allow him to come into situations. He can have a big impact on the game.”
On United’s team news, Ten Hag added: “There are some unavailable – (Lisandro) Martinez, (Raphael) Varane.
“We have to see how Bruno Fernandes is. We don’t know yet, he’s a question mark. But I think for the rest, we are quite OK.
“We all have seen he played a full game and it happened in the first half. Thursday is quick but we have to see coming now what is possible.”
