Man Utd ‘like’ £40m Newcastle target amid Ten Hag U-turn over Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are admirers of Leicester star Harvey Barnes who has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle this summer, despite reports suggesting Erik ten Hag has done a U-turn over Jadon Sancho.
Reports over the weekend claimed Newcastle are readying a £25m bid for Barnes, though Leicester value the winger at £40m.
Football Insider claim the Magpies are ‘pushing’ and have received a boost in their bid to sign the England international as he is ‘keen to leave Leicester City for Newcastle’ with the prospect of playing Champions League football is said to be a ‘huge draw’.
But Man Utd can also offer Champions League football and the Daily Mail claim they, along with West Ham, ‘like’ Barnes and will keep tabs on his situation despite Newcastle leading the race with much of the ‘groundwork’ to sign him completed.
Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin could be on his way out of St James’ Park to make room for Barnes, and both Crystal Palace and Everton have ‘asked about’ signing the Frenchman.
But although space could have been made in United’s squad through the sale of Sancho, with previous reports claiming Ten Hag wanted to offload the 23-year-old, it’s now thought the Dutch boss would rather keep him at Old Trafford.

Sancho has struggled for consistency since moving from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, but did show glimpses of his quality last term, scoring six goals in 26 Premier League appearances.
And according to Jacque Talbot of Football Transfers, Ten Hag now has a new plan in mind for the 23-year-old.
“Told Erik ten Hag’s current intention is to give Jadon Sancho one more season at Man Utd to impress,” the journalist revealed on Twitter.
“If a huge offer comes in then the winger might leave but given his wages that is very unlikely.”
Tottenham have been linked with Sancho and Dortmund are reportedly interested in taking him back on a season-long loan.
“There’s this idea at BVB. This is not an issue that is immediately buried when you ask BVB officials about it,” Florian Plettenberg revealed.
“You really appreciate Jadon Sancho as a player and as a person at BVB. These are at least two ideas that BVB are working on. Not intensively, but you have it in your head.”
