Man Utd make ‘official attempt’ to sign £5m star who can solve Ten Hag problem
According to the latest reports, Manchester United have made an ‘official attempt’ to sign Altay Bayindir in an attempt to sign a new goalkeeper.
Andre Onana’s arrival has already boosted Erik ten Hag, but he is still in the market for a backup shot-stopper.
Dean Henderson is still more than likely to leave this summer and backup goalkeeper Matej Kovar is being linked with a move to Aston Villa.
The Red Devils had been linked with Urawa Reds goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, but the goalkeeper turned down the chance to join Man Utd in favour of staying in Japan.
It now seems as if Ten Hag’s side are ready to go after Fenerbahce goalkeeper Bayindir in an attempt to solve their goalkeeping conundrum.
According to CNN Turkey, Man Utd have made started an ‘official attempt’ to sign the goalkeeper this summer.
For a backup goalkeeper, someone like Bayindir would certainly offer plenty of experience. At 25 years old the goalkeeper has made 175 career appearances.
More often than not, he has been Fenerbahce’s number one goalkeeper since the 2019–20 season, when he first joined the club.
Reports have suggested the 25-year-old would cost around £5m which would be a decent deal for a backup keeper.
Bayindir’s contract with Fenerbahce runs until 2027, but a release clause in his deal means he is available on the cheap this summer.
Along with Man Utd, Ajax have also been linked with the goalkeeper. A move to Old Trafford would be huge for Bayindir, but he would have to settle for a spot on the bench more often than not.
Ten Hag is ready to back Onana as his new number one ahead of the upcoming campaign and he recently discussed what the goalkeeper will bring to his side.
“Most important, always for a keeper, is clean sheets and he’s not doing that on his own,” Ten Hag told the club website.
“Therefore, you need a very good defensive organisation, [it’s] quite clear. But also the capabilities of a keeper is [about] keeping the goal clean. So this is the first criterion of a good goalkeeper.
“But, nowadays, football also demands good playing from the back, out-playing qualities, and that is a quality Andre has. You need both and you need to cover both areas. So yeah, we’re happy, of course.
“I think with his physical presence and also with his personality, he is so keen on winning. He’s so, so eager to win trophies and he will help the team and he will help the squad to get to higher levels.”
