Mason Greenwood has decided on his next club with the Manchester United forward set to spend the 2023-24 campaign out on loan.

Greenwood was facing charges relating to attempted rape and assault but it was announced in February that the case against has been discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service.

This decision was made after it was ruled that “the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction”.

The forward has also been the subject of an internal investigation at Old Trafford since February.

Greenwood is under contract with United until 2025 and was recently included on the club’s retained list upon the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

The club have seemingly come to a conclusion on what to do with the 21-year-old as he now looks likely to spend the season out on loan.

Atalanta BC News have claimed that Greenwood has reached an agreement to join Atalanta, with an announcement soon set to follow.

“I have been told that Mason Greenwood has reached an agreement with Atalanta,” the outlet explains. “He will be in Bergamo on Tuesday. He has said no to Juventus to join Atalanta.”

Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News has also backed up these claims as a deal with Atalanta seems to be in the works.

“John Murtough has held extensive talks with Atalanta officials and has discussed a possible deal to sign striker Rasmus Hojlund and loan Greenwood to the Serie A club,” Luckhurst explains.

“United have decided to loan Greenwood, 21, as Erik ten Hag is reluctant to sell the forward.”

Greenwood has not played for United since he was suspended by the club in January 2022. The forward has scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for the club.

United themselves are focused on signing a striker this summer as they hope to land a deal for Hojlund.

The club are hopeful that a bid of £50m will be enough to land the 20-year-old, who scored 10 goals in all competitions last season.
