Man Utd ‘meet entourage’ of £43.8m Monaco star as Ten Hag seeks Maguire replacement
Manchester United have reportedly taken steps to sign Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi in the summer.
Disasi has caught the eye through his impressive displays in Ligue 1 and was part of France’s World Cup squad in Qatar.
And according to FootMercato, United bosses met with Disasi’s representatives two weeks ago to discuss a potential move to Old Trafford.
It’s claimed Monaco would demand €50 million (£43.8m) for Disasi, who will have two years remaining on his contract with the Ligue 1 side this summer.
Speaking earlier this season, Disasi revealed he would be delighted to play in the Premier League.
‘I like England, it’s a very exciting league. We’ll say it’s my favourite league,’ Disasi said.
‘It’s always nice to be linked to a club like PSG. I’m an ambitious person. PSG is a very ambitious club.
‘But I’m good at Monaco, we were at the end of the transfer window I have the confidence of the coach and the leaders. I felt good at Monaco and I still feel good there.
‘But there were contacts, it’s true. They intensified after the match against Paris [in August]. But I said it, I was good at Monaco. I feel that I am passing milestones and I wanted to continue.’
The 25-year-old could be a replacement for Harry Maguire, who’s been linked with a move away from United this summer.
The club captain has found game time hard to come by this term under new manager Erik ten Hag, who brough Lisandro Martinez with him from Ajax, and has tended to pair the Argentinian with Raphael Varane at the heart of defence.
That said, Ten Hag recently revealed his delight at Maguire’s “progress” this season.
Ten Hag said: “I am really happy with the progress Harry is making, he is more dominant and dictating, taking more initiative in the training space.
“I think also we have seen it in Seville against Betis where he showed leadership, especially in aspects of initiative and dictation of the game.”
