Man Utd ‘offer’ unwanted star to Real Madrid for cut-price as Ten Hag plans to axe forward
Manchester United have offered Real Madrid the chance to sign Anthony Martial in a cut-price deal according to a recent report.
Erik ten Hag’s side have endured a bumpy start to the new campaign and he will be hoping to add some more options between now and the end of the window.
The likes of Jean-Clair Todibo and Sofyan Amrabat are still fancied by Man Utd, but they may have to offload some stars of their own.
As Rasmus Hojlund is soon expected to return from injury, this could open the door for a potential Martial exit.
The French forward has struggled to stay fit throughout his time at Old Trafford and Ten Hag is seemingly happy to move him on.
According to reports from Spain, Man Utd have offered Martial to Real Madrid for the cut-price of just £13m.
Real Madrid are short on attacking options as things stand as they sold Karim Benzema and are currently without Vinicius Junior due to injury.
Martial’s contract with Man Utd expires next summer, although the club does hold the option of extending his deal by a further year.
With this being the case, Man Utd could see this summer as their last chance to recoup some money on the 27-year-old.
Martial did start in Man Utd’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest, although he was withdrawn after 60 minutes.
He will be expected to fall down the pecking order once Hojlund returns from injury and he would surely be interested in joining the Spanish giants.
However, despite the transfer rumours, Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Real Madrid aren’t looking to sign any more players this summer.
“No signings? Our attack is complete,” Ancelotti told reporters. “The numbers speak for themselves. We are scoring goals without Benzema and Vinicius. We can win without Vinicius, Benzema, Courtois, Militao.”
Prior to the season getting underway, former Man Utd forward Louis Saha told Betfred that Martial still has something to offer at Old Trafford.
“Manchester United still have Anthony Martial, who’s been very unlucky with injuries, and hopefully he can get more gametime next season because he still has a lot to offer,” Saha explained.
While a move to Real Madrid seems unlikely for Martial, it is worth noting that the Spanish side signed Joselu in a similar sort of deal this summer.
