‘Man Utd are the only option’ – Crouch tells Ten Hag’s top target to snub Poch reunion at Chelsea

BT Sport pundit Peter Crouch has explained why Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane should join Man Utd over Chelsea and Newcastle United.

Kane has been in stunning form this season. He scored his 28th Premier League goal of the 2022/23 campaign against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

The striker’s future is in doubt heading into this summer. He is out of contract next year and he is yet to commit his future to Spurs beyond the end of his current deal.

The 29-year-old’s next contract could prove to be his last so he has a huge decision to make this summer.

Man Utd are known to be in the market for a new striker and Kane is one of Erik ten Hag’s preferred targets. Spurs are understood to value him at around £100m.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s game against Brentford, Crouch suggested that Man Utd are the “only real option” for Kane if opts to leave this summer.

“If he goes, where could he go? Man City’s sewn up really now, Manchester United’s the only real option I can see,” Crouch said on BT Sport.

“He can’t go to Chelsea, he can’t go to Arsenal. Newcastle’s still potentially an option, but I still feel that’s a sideways move. Newcastle have got great potential but I’d feel like he might as well stay at Tottenham.”

Crouch added: “There’s something very special about being a one-club man. There are players at Liverpool who probably could have been like Steven Gerrard or Jamie Carragher but moved onto other fields and were maybe not as well thought of as those players, and Harry Kane, yes he might go and win a trophy, but here they’d build a statue of him.

“He’d be able to bring his grandkids here and say I’m the top goalscorer [for this club]. If he goes to Chelsea or Arsenal – there’s potential with Pochettino for him to go to Chelsea – you might win a trophy but it’s not going to feel the same as if he stayed.”

Rio Ferdinand is in agreement with Crouch over Kane’s next destination if he departs Tottenham.

“Man Utd. If he wants to break the Premier League record as well – which I think is in his mind and in his sights,” Ferdinand said.

“He’s a fabulous player and whatever he does he’s a guy whose career is going to absolutely be celebrated because of what he’s achieved.

“He’s been a phenomenal servant to this club and the game of football, the way he conducts himself and carries himself. He’s an absolute icon of the game in this country.”
