‘Man Utd is his only option!’ Harry Kane tipped to ditch Tottenham for Red Devils despite Bayern talks
Former Tottenham player Jermaine Jenas believes that Manchester United is the only club Harry Kane will sign for after Spurs.
The England international continues to be linked with a departure. And, with just one year remaining on his contract, it is looking more and more likely.
Man Utd have been heavily linked with a move for Kane for some time. However, after Tottenham stood firm on their £100m valuation, they have switched their attention to alternative striker targets.
But, despite this, Bayern Munich are still pushing to sign the highly-rated striker.
The German club have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Kane. But, saw their opening offer of €70m rejected. Now, it remains to be seen whether they will make an improved bid for him.
Nevertheless, Jenas thinks that Kane is still more likely to end up at Man Utd, rather than Bayern. This is because he thinks the Englishman is determined to beat the all-time Premier League scoring record, which is currently held by Alan Shearer.
As it stands, Kane has scored 213 PL goals, while Shearer netted 260 during his career.
Speaking on the Tea with Timsy podcast, Jenas said: “Harry has got himself into a situation where he’s almost causing himself his own problem.
“It’s obviously important to him to be the Premier League’s top goal scorer.
“He’s come so far and he’s only about 50-odd goals away. If he moves and stays in the Prem, he can’t go to Arsenal.
“Chelsea would bite their hand off but Daniel Levy’s never gonna deal with Chelsea again after the whole Hazard and Willian situation which is why you don’t see that transaction happen anymore.
“Liverpool have got [Darwin] Nunez and City have got [Erling] Haaland. So Manchester United is his only option!”
As mentioned, it’s no secret that Man Utd are currently in the market for a new centre-forward. But, they currently have alternative targets to Kane on their radar.
Indeed, as noted by Football365, the Red Devils are ‘willing to do anything’ to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
Reports emerged over the weekend that the Premier League side had seen an opening offer of £30m rejected with Man Utd set to make a fresh offer of £40m (€46m).
But, Atalanta are currently holding out for €60m (£51.3m). So, it will be interesting to see if Man Utd match that fee.
What seems certain, though, is that they won’t be meeting Kane’s £100m price tag. Therefore, if the Tottenham striker is going to make a move to Old Trafford, it’s much more likely to be next summer, as a free agent.
Unless, of course, Daniel Levy can somehow convince him to sign a new contract.
