Man Utd target Yassine Bounou points instructions to his team-mates

Man Utd are looking into the possibility of signing World Cup star Yassine Bounou from Sevilla in the January transfer window, according to reports.

Bounou, whose nickname is Bono, put in a number of sparkling displays at the World Cup as Morocco finished fourth at the tournament after a brilliant run to the semi-finals of the competition.

The performances of some of the Moroccan team have alerted a number of clubs to their potential availability in the January transfer market and Bono is one of those players who is attracting interest.

One of those sides is Man Utd, who could be in the market for a new goalkeeper, after it was announced that Martin Dubravka – who has made just two League Cup appearances – was recalled by Newcastle from his loan at Old Trafford over the weekend.

That means the Red Devils are left with Tom Heaton as their main back-up goalkeeper to David de Gea and now Erik ten Hag could look to enter the market to secure another body.

And Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo claims that Man Utd ‘opens the door’ to the idea of signing Bono from Sevilla after it was announced that Dubravka is returning to Newcastle.

Both De Gea and Heaton have contracts which are up in the summer but the Red Devils have options to extend both of their deals.

It is understood that interest from Man Utd in Bono is ‘not new’ with the Red Devils impressed by the Moroccan in the Europa League in 2020 – but the report adds that a transfer ‘has rarely seemed so close to materialising’.

However, Bono ‘ended up renewing with Sevilla and raising his termination clause’ which was already over €30m.

The ‘surprise’ announcement from Newcastle over Dubravka means Man Utd ‘will go to the goalkeeper market’ as they target a player who can be their ‘starting goalkeeper for the coming seasons’.

Bono’s name has appeared ‘again’ in United’s thoughts but the Red Devils ‘could not offer’ him a starting spot until the summer with De Gea set to remain number one until his future is sorted.

A move to Man Utd in the summer transfer window is something the Sevilla goalkeeper ‘would consider’ and Estadio Deportivo insist that it ‘would not be a traumatic exit as long as they [United] pay well for it’.
