Man Utd outcast ‘pushing’ for Nottingham Forest move as Cooper eyes double Red Devils raid
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is reportedly ‘pushing’ for a move to Nottingham Forest, where he spent last season on loan.
The 26-year-old could potentially follow Anthony Elanga to the City Ground, who signed for the Tricky Trees on Wednesday.
Given the arrival of Andre Onana at Man Utd, it’s unlikely Henderson will get many opportunities under Erik ten Hag. A move away from Old Trafford is therefore the best thing for his development.
The England international made 18 Premier League appearances for Nottingham Forest last season, keeping six clean sheets.
He was initially a consistent starter under Steve Cooper but an injury and the subsequent arrival of Keylor Navas saw his playing time diminish.
Nevertheless, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, he is trying to force a move back to the City Ground this summer.
“Nottingham Forest are still in contact contacts with Manchester United after the signing of Anthony Elanga.
“They are trying to unlock the situation of Dean Henderson. The GK is pushing for the move but Man Utd want to finalize his replacement before allowing him to leave: evolving situation.”
As suggested by Galetti, Man Utd will only allow Henderson to leave if they bring in a new back-up keeper this summer. This has become even more important recently, with Nathan Bishop also linked with a move away from the Red Devils.
As previously reported by Football365, Man Utd have been pushing to sign Urawa Reds goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
The 20-year-old rejected the Red Devil’s approach, however, in favour of remaining in Japan for another season. As a result, Ten Hag will have to look for alternatives.
One potential option is Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow. The 25-year-old has been previously linked with a move to Old Trafford and now Ten Hag is considering a concrete offer for his services.
That is according to Dutch outlet 1908.nl (via FootballFanCast), who claim Man Utd are ‘still exploring the market’ for a new backup keeper and Bijlow ‘remains on their radar.’
Feyenoord will reportedly demand a fee in the region of £20m for him, though, which is a lot of money for a second-choice shot-stopper.
Henderson will be hoping Man Utd sign Bijlow soon though, as it’s clear that he is determined to sign for Nottingham Forest this summer.
It isn’t clear how much the Red Devils will demand for Henderson this summer. Transfermarkt value him at approximately £18m, though, so an offer in that region may be required.
