Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has dropped a fresh hint about his future, following an impressive pre-season performance.

The Dutch midfielder came on as a second-half substitute against Lyon in a pre-season friendly and scored the only goal of the game.

Since moving to England in 2020, the 26-year-old has struggled to make much of an impact and his future is currently up in the air.

Having missed the majority of last season through injury, his return in pre-season will have come as a boost ahead of the new campaign.

AC Milan have been one of the clubs monitoring his situation as he ponders his next move.

Following his goal against Lyon, the midfielder spoke to MUTV and admitted his future is still up in the air.

“This was a big moment for me,” Van de Beek admitted. “There’s still a chance I move, but we’re keeping it open.

“It was great, my first game after six months. I don’t have to tell you that the injury is such a mental difficult period. To be back on the pitch was great and of course it is nice if you score a goal as well.”

While discussing his injury, the Dutch midfielder thinks that the experience has made him a stronger person.

“I think it makes you mentally stronger. If this kind of moment happens, you realise how much you love playing football. And when you are back on the pitch you enjoy it more, but of course you have to work really hard.”

Ten Hag himself was impressed with his squad as they battled to a 1-0 victory against Lyon in their second pre-season match.

“It was a good mix between experience and youth,” Ten Hag admitted. “Donny [van de Beek], Fred, Jonny Evans, lots of experience. You can see the youngsters can improve the game. Very happy with the way we transferred our way of playing on the pitch.”

Man Utd are interested in signing another midfielder this summer, which could further push Van De Beek down the pecking order.

Ten Hag is said to be interested in Sofyan Amrabat, although Man Utd are not yet prepared to meet Fiorentina’s asking price for the midfielder.

In order to raise more funds, sales are to be expected in the following weeks so that Ten Hag can continue to strengthen his side.
