Man Utd plan to cash in on £52m star as Ten Hag plans for new-look midfield with Mount
Manchester United are set to accelerate plans to sell one of their midfield stars as soon as a deal for Chelsea’s Mason Mount is concluded.
United have reached a deal with Chelsea to sign Mount for a fee of around £60m with add-ons.
With the deal set to be finalised in the coming days, Erik ten Hag will switch his attention to the outgoings at the club.
It was recently revealed that United are prepared to sell 13 players this summer in an attempt to raise more funds for the summer.
Fred was part of the 13-man list and the club are ready to cash in on the Brazilian following the signing of Mount.
According to Manchester Evening News, the club will push ahead with plans to sell Fred upon Mount’s arrival.
Fred was signed for a fee of around £52m back in 2018 and has made over 200 appearances for the club in total.
He is under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2024 and so this summer could be their final chance to cash in on him.
Fulham are said to be interested in the 30-year-old, although they aren’t willing to meet United’s current asking price.
With United looking for around £20m, this figure is currently deemed too high by Fulham.
Fred himself has been tight-lipped on his future as he commented on his situation following the FA Cup final defeat to Man City.
“I still don’t know, I have to talk with my family, I still have one year left in my contract here,” Fred explained.
“Now it’s holidays’ time and a good opportunity to rest. I’ll talk to my staff, to the club and see what is everyone’s decision.
“I do have to talk with Ten Hag as well, he’s the manager and the conversation has to involve everyone.
“We have to see how next season will plan out. I want to be important, I want to help the team, so we’ll see. But I’ve always been and still am very happy at Manchester United.
“Of course, I always want to be playing, to be helping my team and gladly I started and I think we played well.”
Along with Fred, United are also willing to move on fellow midfielders Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek.
