Manchester United are planning talks with Edinson Cavani amid claims that he will move to Argentina to play for Boca Juniors this summer.
Reports in South America on Monday claimed he was ready to take a substantial pay cut to return to South America and sign a three-year contract.
But that option has been downplayed both in Argentina and in England, with Cavani far more likely to seek another year at United.
TyC Sports report: ‘The chances that Edinson Cavani could reach Boca in June seem more and more distant, after from his surroundings they slipped that the forward would have no intention of living in Argentina. In addition, he would be close to renewing his contract with Manchester United.’
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail say that ‘Manchester United will hold talks with Edinson Cavani over his future’ and that those talks were planned before Monday’s reports emerged.
It is thought that the plan was always that Cavani would stay for another season if both him and the club were still happy.
The Uruguayan has scored six Premier League goals but has missed several games through injury and suspension.
It is thought that he is keen to stay at United but would like assurances about his game-time as rumours abound that the club will sign a new striker this summer.
