Man Utd players want Rangnick formation change

Manchester United players would reportedly ‘advocate’ another formation change under Ralf Rangnick.

Having started with a 4-2-2-2 formation at Old Trafford, Rangnick has preferred a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 in recent weeks, but some members of the squad want the German boss to switch things up once again.

United climbed into fourth place with a 2-0 victory over Brighton on Tuesday, to ease the pressure on Rangnick and the players.

But it was far from a fluent display and with continuing reports of discord in the United squad, The Athletic claim the players want to see Rangnick deploy two strikers in a bid to convert more of the chances they’ve been creating.

Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo started together in arguably United’s best performance of the season – the 3-0 win over Spurs – with both players scoring and Ronaldo setting up Cavani.

The report states that ‘depending on availability some in the squad would advocate a return to the approach that worked so well in north London’.

The other two games in which the pair have started this season were the 3-1 win over Burnley and the 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

Meanwhile, Simon Jordan has backed Ralf Rangnick to remain as United manager beyond this season, on two conditions.

Should the German secure fourth spot and beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, the pundit sees no reason why they should be targeting a different permanent manager.

“He’s dragging these players to a different place,” Jordan told talkSPORT. “And eventually we’re going to see that lag being shortened and we’re going to see this team get better.

“Now whether he can do it within the timelines that are sufficient enough to convince those that make the decisions…

“They beat Brighton last night, Brighton are in form, they haven’t been beaten in seven Premier League games, they’re a good side.

“They’re fourth in the league, I think they’ll stay fourth in the league, I think they’ll beat Atletico [Madrid], I think they’ll go deeper in the Champions League than people anticipate, and then what’s your argument against Rangnick?”
