Man Utd have been conducting negotiations for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir with the hope he will provide Andre Onana with competition, according to reports.

The Red Devils have already moved to bring in their top goalkeeper target this summer with Onana joining from Inter Milan in a £47m deal.

Onana was the replacement for David de Gea, who left Old Trafford on a free transfer after 12 years at the Premier League club, but Man Utd are now on the lookout for a competent back-up goalkeeper with the prospect of Dean Henderson leaving for Nottingham Forest permanently.

Bayindir has been a regular starter for Fenerbahce over the last four seasons after making the move from Ankaragücü with the 25-year-old earning five caps for Turkey over the last few years.

And his performances have impressed Man Utd with the Daily Mail claiming that the Red Devils have now ‘held talks’ to sign the Turkey international.

Man Utd ‘have been looking at options to keep competition for places strong’ with Luton Town considering an offer for Tom Heaton.

The Daily Mail adds:

‘Bayindir would cost around £5m but the question for the 25-year-old is whether he can get more regular football elsewhere with the likes of Ajax interested.

‘Fenerbahce are expecting his departure as they have been discussing Croatia number one Dominik Livakovic.’

Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, who was called a potential ‘shock signing’ in a report earlier this month with claims Man Utd had already made a formal bid.

It is understood that Man Utd ‘remain keen’ on the Urawa Red Diamonds star but that Bayindir is currently their top option to provide competition for Onana.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has again been the focus of speculation with Spurs owner Joe Lewis now keen to sell him if he refuses to sign a new deal.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano addressed links to Man Utd in his Caught Offside column, he wrote: “Manchester United are not actively pursuing Kane any more. They explored the move earlier in the window and had low confidence Levy would sell to a Premier League rival.

“Their focus for now is on Rasmus Højlund, who they are expected to formally bid for this week. Manchester United are hoping a deal is possible for €60-65m. Atlanta’s €100m asking price is not realistic. Any deal is expected to be done for much less.

“Manchester United would obviously love Kane (he was their top target heading into this window), but they simply aren’t back in the race right now and that won’t change unless given clear and direct encouragement from Spurs they aren’t wasting their time.”
