Man Utd prepared to spend €50m on Real Madrid star but Ten Hag faces key stumbling block
Manchester United are willing to spend €50million on a Real Madrid defender this summer, but the player in question isn’t keen on the move.
Erik ten Hag’s primary focus for the time being is signing a new striker and holding midfielder, but they are also exploring other targets.
It previously came to light that Man Utd are keen on a move for David Alaba, with Real Madrid seemingly open to selling the player this summer.
Alaba would certainly add a new dynamic to the United back line. The 31-year-old can play as a centre-half or left-back and would add a wealth of experience to Ten Hag’s side.
However, the sticking point in this deal could revolve around Alaba himself. As reported by CaughtOffside, Man Utd are prepared to spend €50m on the Real Madrid star.
Although convincing Alaba himself could prove to be difficult. The report claims that the defender isn’t sure if a move to Manchester would be a ‘good idea’ for him right now as he is seemingly enjoying life in Madrid.
The Austrian international has played his fair share of football under Carlo Ancelotti as he featured in 39 matches across all competitions last season.
Alaba joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in 2021 and is contracted with the Spanish club until the summer of 2026.
Along with links to Old Trafford, Arsenal have also been weighing up a move for the 31-year-old.
Mikel Arteta is said to be a fan of the Real Madrid man, although they will need to offload some players before making their next purchase.
As Real Madrid have already splashed out on Jude Bellingham and could soon be handing Kylian Mbappe a blockbuster contract, they could sense their chance to recoup some money here by selling Alaba.
During his two seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu, Alaba has won six trophies, including the Champions League and La Liga.
He would make a fine addition to any Premier League side, although convincing him to join could be tough.
