Man Utd in race for €40m star ‘up for auction’ – player’s ‘two guidelines’ for transfer revealed

According to reports, Man Utd are among the clubs interested in signing Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio this summer.
The forward has played 235 times for the La Liga giants over the past six seasons.
Asensio was in and out of the team last term, as he only started 19 times in the league. He was involved in 14 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.
Erik Ten Hag to prioritise Ronaldo on his first day at Manchester United? Will he balls
His contract is due to expire in 2023 and he is yet to commit his long-term future to Real Madrid.
Last week, it was reported that they are ‘waiting for the player’s decision’ regarding his future.
Spanish outlet Sport (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Man Utd are ‘pushing’ to sign Asensio. Chelsea and AC Milan are also interested.
It is said that the player is ‘up for auction’ this summer while his value remains high. He is rated at around €40m.
Asensio is said to want his next club to ‘meet his wage demands of between €7-8m per season post-tax’ and ‘guarantee’ that he will be a starter.
Meanwhile, Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan has claimed that Ajax have put Man Utd in an “awkward position” by valuing two of their targets at a combined £130m.
A new centre-back and new winger are also high up on Erik ten Hag’s list of priorities. Ajax duo Lisandro Martinez and Antony are heavily linked.
The Dutch journalist has insisted that Ajax are hoping to get as much as £50m for Martinez and £80m for Antony this summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Van der Kraan said: “Martinez has two offers from England, one is from Arsenal and one is from Manchester United. But, when I say offer, there’s been an offer to the club to talk, there’s been offer to his agent to discuss things.
“And there is not an absolute concrete money offer on the table yet but that could soon happen. Then again he’s an expensive one because Ajax are demanding £45m- £50m for this player.
“Why is this? Ajax have no need to sell any more players. They have the money, they are financially ok and they have said: look, if anybody comes in for Martinez, or Antony for instance – who is worth £80m in the eyes of Ajax – the prices they are asking are absolutely huge because they have no need to sell.
“And they know Man United, like many clubs in Europe at this moment, need players. So it’s a very awkward position Manchester United are in at this moment.”
