Man Utd man only ‘creates something 1/10 times’ as Ten Hag is told to criticise wasteful forward
Marcus Rashford only creates something “one out of ten times” and should be criticised by Erik ten Hag for his wastefulness, according to a former Manchester United defender.
The England forward penned a new long-term contract over the summer, which reportedly made him the club’s highest earner.
He was rewarded after a terrific 2022/23 campaign in front of goal. In 56 appearances across all competitions, the 25-year-old scored 30 goals and made 11 assists.
Last term was undoubtedly the best year of Rashford’s career after a turbulent time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
Despite an excellent campaign, Rashford still has his doubters. He has not started this season very well and struggled to perform as Manchester United were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham on Saturday.

Former Red Devils full-back Paul Parker is someone who has often criticised Rashford and he has once again voiced his frustrations, saying the England forward loses the ball “cheaply” and often makes the wrong decision when in possession.
“Wide players should be looking at ten-plus goals,” Parker told Inside Sport after United’s 1-0 win over Wolves last Monday. “Especially someone that’s done what he did last season.
“With Marcus Rashford he can score goals but people that watch people without rose-tinted glasses know he doesn’t do enough when he’s got the ball. He gives it away cheaply.
“Tries to go into the cul de sac with so many parked cars in it. And when he loses the ball he does one or two things. He falls down and holds any part of his body or he just walks back.”
Parker added that he thinks manager Erik ten Hag and club captain Bruno Fernandes should be more critical of Rashford.
“I just want people to watch the game and see,” he added. “I’m surprised the manager hasn’t said anything. It’s the modern footballer now.
“Not one of his teammates has pointed the finger at him and questioned him when he loses the ball.
“That’s when you need your captain to speak to him when he’s ambling back.
“If you give Marcus Rashford the ball, he may create something one out of ten times. I could have said 20.
“I didn’t see a successful dribble from Rashford against Wolves.”
Rashford has been playing as a No. 9 under Ten Hag when his favoured position is off the left.
The summer signing of Rasmus Hojlund will allow Rashford to play wider, though the Danish striker is not 100 per cent fit after joining from Atalanta for a reported £64million fee.
