Man Utd-linked Sergej Milinkovic-Savic celebrates scoring

Man Utd target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will be able to leave Lazio in the summer transfer window for the right price, according to reports.

Former Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reportedly keen to add another central midfielder in the summer, but was unable to bring one in.

They signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane instead, spending over £100million for the trio.

One player they have been regularly linked with over the past couple of seasons is Milinkovic-Savic, who has contributed eight goals and eight assists in 23 Serie A matches this campaign.

It was said back in December that Man Utd were ‘lurking’ ahead of the January transfer window, while another report insisted that Paris Saint-Germain were the Red Devils’ main competition for the Serbian.

And Il Tempo (via Sport Witness) – who mention the interest from Man Utd – claim that Lazio have an ‘unwritten agreement with his agent’ that ‘if an offer from a top club should arrive, they will let him go.’

The price tag had previously put off Man Utd with rumours Lazio wanted £100m at one point but now the report adds that, while still ‘hefty’, Lazio’s asking price has come down with the Serie A club demanding ‘no less than €70m’.

It is understood that a transfer away from the club in the summer is ‘possible’ with his contract expiring in the summer of 2024.

Meanwhile, Man Utd interim boss Ralf Rangnick was criticised last week for allowing Edinson Cavani to miss the Middlesbrough game as a result of a late return from international duty. However, hee pointed out yesterday that this was planned in advance before the club suspended Mason Greenwood.

Rangnick said: “Edinson asked me two days after the West Ham game if he could stay one or two days longer in Uruguay.

“At the time we didn’t know anything about Mason Greenwood. This only came up a week later. That is why we allowed him to spend one or two more days longer in Uruguay and come back for the game against Burnley.”
