Romano gives ‘concrete’ update on Man Utd star to Tottenham as Red Devils chase ‘bargain’ signing
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag is “still convinced” Jadon Sancho “has great potential” amid Tottenham transfer rumours.
Reports have claimed that the Red Devils will have a budget of around £120m to spend this summer with the pot increasing if Ten Hag manages to offload some of his squad players.
One player who would command a big fee if sold would be Sancho with CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs suggesting a fee of “£50m or £60m” might persuade Man Utd to sell.
Sancho has not lived up to his £72m price tag since moving to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 with the 23-year-old England international contributing nine goals and six assists in two Premier League seasons.

Giving an update on potential Man Utd exits, Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “We know there could be a few big names heading out of Manchester United this summer. There will be conversations over Harry Maguire’s future soon, while David de Gea has interest from Saudi Arabia but prefers to stay. I’m also aware of further rumours which I’ll address here:
“I’m not aware of anything concrete at this stage for Jadon Sancho, despite links with Tottenham. Erik ten Hag has been protecting him in the best way this year and he’s still convinced that Jadon has great potential, so let’s see what happens, but for now I’m not aware of anything advanced with any other clubs or any plans from United to part ways with the player. Sancho showed what a great talent he was at Borussia Dortmund, so I hope fans are patient and we can see him get back to his best soon.
“It’s also worth being clear that Tottenham’s focus is on a creative midfielder and new centre-back now, and of course a new goalkeeper. For the creative midfield role they really like James Maddison, while for the ‘keeper they have agreed personal terms with David Raya but still need to agree a fee with Brentford.”
Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries could be a target for Man Utd this summer but Romano insists they currently have “different priorities”.
Romano added: “Denzel Dumfries could be one to watch this summer, as he hinted yesterday: ‘I’m proud to be an Inter player, I’ve had two excellent years and I’ve no reasons to leave… but we know football can be dynamic we will see what happens.’
“There is interest in Denzel Dumfries this summer, clubs are monitoring him, and he recently changed agents. But, despite rumours, I’m not aware of any talk with Chelsea as of today, while Manchester United have different priorities in this moment, with Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi being looked at as Kim Min-jae now seems increasingly likely to join Bayern Munich.
“Asking price could be around €25/30m for Dumfries, depending also on how quickly Inter can find a replacement. In my opinion, that could be a bargain for whoever gets him – he’s an intelligent right-back with plenty to add to the team going forward.”
