Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Man Utd are now “convinced” that Fred “will leave the club” in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have signed Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan so far this summer as Erik ten Hag now turns his attention to bringing in a new striker.

Outgoings are also something on Ten Hag’s mind with reports indicating that the Dutchman hopes to raise as much as £100m from sales in order to boost his transfer budget.

Man Utd midfielder Fred is among those players understood to be dispensable this summer after the Brazilian lost his regular place in the side under Ten Hag last term.

His midfield team-mate Scott McTominay could also be up for sale, as well as former captain Harry Maguire, while Fred is attracting interest from Premier League side Fulham.

And now Romano has brought an update on Fred’s future as well as potential new signings at Old Trafford, including the latest on Man United’s pursuit of Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.

Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “I’ve been asked again about Sofyan Amrabat and Manchester United, but from what I’m hearing they have not made an official bid for the Fiorentina midfielder. Amrabat is on their list, they like him, they want to negotiate for him, but there’s no bid yet.

“Fiorentina want something like €35-40m and at the moment United’s focus is on a new striker anyway as they target Rasmus Hojlund. After that, they will look at a potential new midfielder and new centre-back.

“Outgoings will also be crucial, and United are convinced that Fred will leave the club. This will be an important first step, and then they can focus on Amrabat.”

Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho scored on Saturday night as Man Utd beat Premier League rivals Arsenal 2-0 in a pre-season friendly in New York.

And Fernandes, who replaced Maguire as captain this week, has called on the rest of the Man Utd squad to show they are “a big team” this season.

Fernandes said: “We did a really good season. It was not successful, but I think that our season was good.

“We started in the wrong way. We had two bad results, our away games were not the best. We didn’t get the best results. But I think overall the season was good.

“Obviously it was the first season for the manager, first season for many players. Now we know that we have to improve game-wise and we will. We will improve it and we will show that we are a big team.

“Manchester United have to fight for everything. This club deserves that. We know when you come to a club like this that you have to fight for all the trophies that you are included in. That’s what we have to do.

“Fight for them, try our best to win every game that we have and that’s it.”
