Man Utd select the two ‘must-sells’ this summer as fresh De Gea twist is revealed
Alex Telles and Eric Bailly are the only two players that Man Utd consider to be ‘must-sells’ this summer, according to reports.
Erik ten Hag has reportedly been given a transfer budget of around £120m for new players this summer but that can be supplemented by funds raised by sales.
There is also the added complication that the Red Devils are currently in the midst of a takeover saga with supporters worried it could ruin their summer business.
A number of players could be sold this summer as Ten Hag looks to boost his budget but the Manchester Evening News claims that Eric Bailly and Alex Telles are seen as the two ‘must-sells’ this summer.
Bailly spent last campaign on loan at Marseille after making just 45 Premier League appearances over his previous five seasons at Old Trafford.
Telles played more than Bailly in 2021-22 but he too was allowed to leave on loan to Sevilla this season, winning the Europa League in the process.
Both of the Man Utd players are about to enter their final year in their contracts and the MEN add that the Red Devils won’t be triggering their one-year option on those deals.

Another player who could potentially leaving the club is David de Gea – who has played 545 matches in all competitions over his 12 seasons at the club – with reports that contract talks between the Red Devils and the Spaniard recently broke down.
Man Utd did have a one-year option on his contract, which expires at the end of this month, but the Red Devils were keen to extend his deal on lower terms.
De Gea has been named on the Red Devils’ released list but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists that a new deal is “almost ready” to be signed.
Romano told GiveMeSport: “Everything is almost ready, but at the moment, no green light. So, let’s see if United will decide to continue with De Gea again and sign a second goalkeeper, maybe a young one, to create competition.
“In case De Gea leaves the club, I think they will go for an important goalkeeper.”
Dimitar Berbatov thinks De Gea should stay at Man Utd and hopes he eventually gets the credit he deserves for his long-term service at Old Trafford.
Berbatov told Betfred: “Based on what he’s given to the club over the last decade and more, I don’t believe he gets enough credit for everything he’s done.
“Everybody makes mistakes and David has been one of the best goalkeepers over the past ten years. It’s normal to make mistakes and I don’t believe that many people remember all the great things he’s done for Manchester United and ultimately, I don’t believe he gets enough respect.
“I think he needs to stay and try to be better than he was last season. Everybody’s focused on whether he’s good enough at using the ball with his feet and it’s very clear that it’s an area he needs to work on, but in my opinion, he needs to stay.
“If David and the manager decide to part ways, then there’s always that time in your career when a new challenge arises, that allows you to start again as new and it refreshes you. This could be the case, but we just have to wait to find out.”
