Man Utd have doubts about signing Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos in the summer, according to reports.

The Spain international looks set to leave the Bernabeu after running down his contract, with Premier League duo Man Utd and Liverpool joined by Paris Saint-Germain in the race for the free transfer.

Bayern Munich have also been linked but reports on Monday claimed that the Red Devils were now in pole position to bring Ramos to Old Trafford.

Todofichajes claimed that Ramos has ‘two attractive offers’ from PSG and Man Utd on the table but that his ‘destiny’ is to move to the Premier League.

The report added that Ramos’ agent ‘will travel to England next week to close the terms of the agreement with the Red Devils’ before moving to Man Utd in the summer.

It is said that Ramos ‘valued the option of PSG but his desire to try in the Premier League has weighed on his decision’.

And now a fresh report on Tuesday in Bernabeu Digital (via Sport Witness) claims that both PSG and United have ‘serious doubts’ about signing Ramos.

The Spaniard has had knee surgery this week as he attempts to return to full fitness with Ramos suffering with a niggling injury.

And both United and the French side think ‘such an operation on a player who is over 34 years old is risky’ and neither club will ‘make a decision’ until he returns to the pitch.

Bernabeu Digital add that ‘everything indicates that he could be closer to renewing with’ Los Blancos despite ‘many tensions’.

Ramos is set to be out for six weeks following surgery on his troublesome knee and he admitted that he had no choice but to go under the knife.

Posting on social media, Ramos said: “Hi everyone! Everything is going as planned.

“Mind already on getting back to work and back on the pitch ASAP. Thanks so much for all your messages and support.”

Ramos added: “In the end, I had to undergo surgery. No one likes to be in that situation but, thanks to God, everything has turned out great.

“It was on medical advice and I had no other option. I just wanted to say that I’m happy with how everything has turned out and that I’ll try get back as soon as possible to help the team because there’s still a long way to go this season.

“I also want to thank Dr Leyes and all his team for the excellent treatment and job during the operation.”
