Man Utd stance revealed on £96m duo that could replace Lukaku

Manchester United are “unlikely” to bring in any replacements for Romelu Lukaku, according to Sky Sports News reporter James Cooper.

Lukaku is reportedly in Milan for a medical at Inter after the Red Devils accepted a new £73m bid from the Serie A outfit.

There have been rumours in Italy that the Red Devils have reopened talks with Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic over a possible £15m move, while United have an interest in £81m-rated Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams.

However, Cooper has poured cold water on a possible deal for the duo with it being “unlikely” that United would have enough time to complete the deals.

Cooper told Sky Sports News: “United are delighted to get rid of a problem, a problem which was causing them more harm than good. They were fairly relaxed that Romelu Lukaku was out of the country even though he was still an employee of United.

“But I think the relationship had run its course, on the other side of the coin he did score a lot of goals for the club and play some very good football.

“There’s speculation about additions, and by doing this quickly United have time to do that, but I’m led to believe it’s unlikely. At this stage, both Mario Mandzukic and Inaki Williams are unlikely, but I was told yesterday that United are working on a couple of things.

“Things can happen on deadline day, but I know Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is delighted with his additions, and some of the youngsters coming through like Mason Greenwood, who made a great impression on tour.”
