Man Utd star ‘unlikely’ to join pre-season tour as £30m sale is ‘expected’ to go through
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is said to be ‘unlikely’ to join the squad for their pre-season tour as he pushes for a move away.
United are pushing ahead with their plans to sign two goalkeepers this summer to replace David De Gea and Henderson.
According to the latest reports, United have made an improved offer for Andre Onana as they hope to seal a deal for the Inter goalkeeper.
Along with Onana, the club have also made a ‘formal offer’ for Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki who would become their new backup.
With two new goalkeepers being approached, Henderson now looks more than likely to leave the club this summer.
The Manchester Evening News revealed that United are ‘expected’ to sell Henderson to Nottingham Forest for a fee of £30m.
The news of Henderson’s exit has been backed up by Charlotte Duncker of The Times who has revealed that the goalkeeper is ‘unlikely’ to fly with United to America for their pre-season tour.
Henderson won’t want to spend another season on the bench at Old Trafford as he is pushing to play first team football.
He spent last season on loan at the City Ground and was Nottingham Forest’s first-choice goalkeeper until he sustained a thigh problem in January.
Keylor Navas took his place for the second half of the season, but he has since returned to PSG upon his loan deal expiring.
Steve Cooper seems keen to bring Henderson back on a permanent basis as he did well while on loan last season.
“We have all enjoyed working with him,” Cooper told reporters back in May.
“We like his personality, he is a good professional and has a fantastic mentality. In terms of whether we will work with him again, it’s hard to say.
“We are grateful for what he has given and what he will still give us. He will still be around and quite visible. Our medical team is working with United’s over what they want our contribution to be towards his recovery. In terms of support, he will be with us until the end, which is what he would want.
“We have a good working relationship with United and communication. It is still fresh after the surgery for what his recovery plan will be. We wish him well.”
Henderson played a total of 18 league matches for Forest and kept six clean sheets, making 52 saves in the process.
