Anthony Martial’s future at Man Utd looks set to come to an end sooner rather than later after Joel Glazer sanctioned a summer exit, according to reports.

The Frenchman still has three years left on his contract at Man Utd with the option of a one-year extension.

A brilliant end to the 2019/20 season had many Red Devils supporters hoping Martial could finally step up and be a prolific goalscorer – but that has not gone to plan.

Man Utd must drop Pogba and introduce McDonny…

Martial only bagged seven goals in all competitions last campaign, while he has yet to get on the scoresheet this campaign in three appearances.

Lyon made a deadline-day offer for the former Monaco forward, only for Martial to reportedly reject the opportunity to return to France on a temporary basis.

And now the Daily Mirror claims that Martial’s ‘days are numbered’ at Man Utd after Glazer sanctioned a transfer to Lyon.

Glazer has been Martial’s biggest supporter in the past by thwarting ‘United’s bid to sign Ivan Perisic under Jose Mourinho due to his complete belief in Martial’.

The Man Utd owner viewed the Frenchman as the Premier League side’s “Pele” but the return of Cristiano Ronaldo ‘may force him to accept Martial has not delivered on their investment’.

The arrival of Ronaldo means Martial is ‘a step closer to a Manchester United exit as he moves a step further down the pecking order’ despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘keen to keep him with the squad’.

The Daily Mirror adds: ‘Whilst a late move in the summer window did not come off, the arrival of Ronaldo could eventually lead to Martial heading for an exit with Glazer in no position to intervene and protect a player he clearly rated highly this time around.’

Meanwhile, Man Utd captain Harry Maguire can’t wait to welcome Ronaldo to Old Trafford after the international break.

Maguire said: “It’s amazing. Obviously I’m away with England at the moment so my focus is on the game tomorrow but for him to sign back for the club (is amazing).

“For me, the greatest player to play the game. It’s amazing to have him at the club. I’m sure he’s going to have a big impact on and off the field and many players can look and learn and improve.

“Obviously he’s going to improve our team as well with his goalscoring record. It’s amazing to have him at the club. I’m looking forward to meeting him in a few days.”
