Manchester United’s move for Benjamin Pavard is now in doubt after Harry Maguire’s move to West Ham has reportedly collapsed.

West Ham had a deal in place with Man Utd, but the defender looks to be digging his heels in at Old Trafford.

Maguire has only featured sparingly under Erik ten Hag and a move to West Ham was on the cards until recently.

According to Jacob Steinberg, the deal has ‘collapsed’ after the Hammers ‘grew tired’ of waiting for Maguire to put pen to paper.

This news could have a knock-on effect elsewhere as Man Utd’s move for Bayern Munich defender Pavard is now in doubt.

Following the additions of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, Erik ten Hag is keen to boost his defensive options.

Man Utd got off to a winning start in the Premier League, but Ten Hag’s side were unconvincing for large spells of the game.

Wolves managed to create plenty of chances and this will have made Ten Hag aware of the shortcomings in his side at this stage.

Pavard has been tracked by Man Utd for some time, but The Sun recently claimed that Man Utd will only get the Pavard deal done once Maguire’s exit has been officially confirmed.

With Maguire’s move to West Ham falling through, this will likely halt Man Utd’s progress in striking a deal for Pavard.

Bayern Munich reportedly want £35m for the defender, which could be seen as quite pricey considering he only has one year left to run on his current contract.

Pavard himself is seemingly keen on the deal, but Man Utd could be left in a tricky situation if they don’t manage to offload Maguire.

Fabrizio Romano recently clarified the French defender is keen on the move, but time will tell if Man Utd are able to strike a deal.

“Manchester United’s favoured candidate is Benjamin Pavard. He’s already told Bayern Munich that he wants to go, and that he won’t sign a new contract,” Romano told the Debrief Podcast.

“I think he’s the favoured candidate, but in case it doesn’t happen there is Jean-Clair Todibo – United’s scouts have been keeping an eye on him.”
