Man Utd are reportedly keen to sign Harry Kane next summer but they will have to do two things before they can move for the Tottenham Hotspur star.

Kane initially looked to depart Spurs in 2021 after Jose Mourinho left the club. He claimed that this was due to him wanting to maximise his chances of winning team trophies before he retires.

Manchester City were leading the race to recruit him but with his contract not up until 2024, Tottenham were able to set an obscene asking price for their prized asset.

A valuation of around £150m proved too costly so a deal could not be completed. City ended up looking elsewhere as they brought in Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez.

Kane meanwhile has seemed happier since Antonio Conte took over and he has been in stunning form this season. He has scored 15 goals in 18 Premier League outings this term.

He is yet to commit his future to Tottenham though as his contract is still up next year. This has fuelled talk that he could leave the club in the summer with Man Utd said to be interested.

Ben Jacobs reported earlier this week that he will cost “in excess of £100m” in the summer.

Spanish outlet Fichajes are now reporting that Kane is Man Utd’s ‘main target’ heading into the summer.

The report also picks out ‘two conditions’ needed for United to sign Kane. One is that they qualify for the Champions League. It is suggested that the lure of playing in that competition could ‘seduce’ the forward into leaving Spurs.

The Red Devils also must ‘sell players who do not fit into Erik ten Hag’s plans’ as the require more funds before they can pursue Kane.

Anthony Elanga, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay, Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho are named as the players ‘on the starting ramp’ to move on.

All six have been linked with moves elsewhere this term as they have fallen down the pecking order under Ten Hag.

Sancho has struggled at United since making his £73m move from Borussia Dortmund official in 2021. The United boss recently revealed that the winger has suffered a drop off in “fitness and mood”.

A separate report from Christian Falk claims that Man Utd face competition from Bayern Munich for Kane as he is their ‘top target’.

‘Harry Kane is still the top target for Bayern Munich in the forward department,’ Falk wrote for Caught Offside.

‘They’re aware of how difficult it is to sign an English player from England – it’s like Marco Reus with Dortmund – but he hasn’t signed a new contract yet, which means there’s still hope.

‘Also, in Munich, they heard about the rumours from Leipzig around Joško Gvardiol. The club have said he’ll stay in the summer but we heard that Christopher Vivell of Chelsea knocked on the door to try and get him either in the winter (they said ‘no’) or the summer.

‘I think there will be some activity in the summer and here’s the connecting point to the Kane rumours: Tottenham are still very keen on Gvardiol, so Bayern are banking on some movement there, as Tottenham need money to buy Gvardiol.

‘They’ll have to sell Kane if he doesn’t extend his contract; if they can agree a deal with Bayern, or Real Madrid perhaps, there will then be money for Gvardiol.’
