Man Utd transfer targets Andreas Christensen and Rico Henry
Andreas Christensen and Rico Henry have been linked with future moves to Old Trafford.

Manchester United will make a move for Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen next year, according to reports in Spain.

Reports over the summer insisted that the Red Devils matched a €50m bid from Liverpool for the former Chelsea star as both clubs looked for a reasonably priced centre-back in the last transfer window.

Christensen left Chelsea just over a year ago on a free transfer to Barcelona after coming through the academy at Stamford Bridge and making 161 appearances in all competitions.

Since moving to the Camp Nou, Christensen has impressed in his 36 appearances at the club but he missed 15 matches last season through injury.

And now Spanish publication Fichajes insist that Man Utd ‘will return to the fray’ to attempt to sign Christensen in 2024 with the Denmark international Erik Ten Hag’s ‘favorite player to reinforce the Red Devils’ defence next summer’.

Of the ‘many names’ Man Utd have looked through, Christensen is the one that ‘stands out above the rest’ after having a ‘notable impact at Barcelona since his arrival last season from Chelsea’.

However, Man Utd could face some resistance from Barcelona manager Xavi, who ‘would not welcome letting one of his best defensive men leave’.

With no end in sight to Barcelona’s ‘delicate economic situation’, Man Utd may be able to convince the Catalan giants to sell for the right price as they ‘need to sell some of its most prominent players’.

Any sale would represent a big profit on Christensen as Barcelona benefitted from bringing in the Dane on a free transfer.

Another player who Man Utd have their eyes on is Brentford left-back Rico Henry with the former England Under-20 international another potential target for 2024.

And Football Insider claim that Brentford ‘could accept an offer of £35million-plus’ for the defender after Man Utd ‘made late overtures’ to sign the 26-year-old.

It is understood the Red Devils – who eventually signed Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham – ‘weren’t able to afford a permanent move for the defender’ but they ‘could revisit the situation next year’.

The Bees ‘are in a strong position’ over Henry as the left-back is currently ‘happy’ in west London but Man Utd ‘and other top Premier League sides could now go back in for Henry in future windows’.

Sources have told Football Insider that ‘Henry would be interested in a big move in the future – and the Bees are unlikely to stand in his way’.
