Manchester United flop issues response to Rooney claim

Memphis Depay has issued a response to former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney’s latest claims.
Depay and Rooney played together for one full season at Manchester United, the former having joined from PSV in summer 2015.
He struggled to establish himself in the first team however, and could not live up to manager Louis van Gaal’s exacting standards.
Rooney has shed light on his difficulties at Old Trafford, starting with a notable mistake in a Boxing Day 2015 defeat to Stoke.
“He came on at Stoke away and messed up for their goal,” Rooney told the Sunday Times.
“So, Louis van Gaal made him play for the reserves the next day. I said, ‘Look, it’s a bit difficult. Just don’t come in with all your fancy stuff.’
“And he turned up for the reserve game in his Rolls-Royce, wearing a leather jacket and a cowboy hat. And I just thought, ‘What’s the point?’
“But Memphis is a lovely lad and it’s good to see things going well for him now.”
Depay wasted little time in issuing a response on social media.
