Sadio Mane says he was worried he wouldn’t get on with Jurgen Klopp in his first chat with the Liverpool boss because he “talked too much”.

After swapping Southampton for Liverpool in 2016, Mane has scored 67 goals in 134 appearances for the Reds, including eight goals in 11 matches this term.

The Senegal international and Klopp have a great relationship, but Mane admits he did have some reservations about the German when they first crossed paths.

“He was talking too much and I said, ‘Wow, this is going to be tough for me because I’m a little quiet’,” Mane told the Sunday Times.

The pair first met when Mane was still at Red Bull Salzburg and Klopp was manager of Borussia Dortmund, who were trying to get the 27-year-old to join them.

Mane added: “Everybody loves him and that is more important, to be honest [than all the talking]. He is a bit of a funny guy but at the same time he is a serious guy.

“Usually when I am talking to him off the pitch it is about personal things. Things about lifestyle and life – and that is important to me. I think I have somebody I can confide in.”
