Sadio Mane admits he was only expecting to receive a yellow card for his challenge on Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.
Mane was sent off in the first half of Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing at the hands of City after colliding with Ederson.
The keeper was stretchered off as a result of the clash, which saw both players chasing a loose ball.
Referee Jon Moss sent Mane off for the incident, much to the surprise of many of those watching.
Mane insists he is “not that kind of player”, and was only expecting to receive a yellow card.
“Honestly, I was focusing more on the goalkeeper than the card and when I saw the red card I was surprised because I was expecting a yellow card,” he told Sky Sports.
“But I’ll accept it and try to forget it. I was going for the ball and I didn’t have the intention to hurt him because I’m not that kind of player. I wish him a quick recovery.
“It’s not easy for me because I love to play football and I enjoy helping my team to win games.”
