Roberto Martinez says that Everton are not distracted by rumours of Romelu Lukaku wanting to play in the Champions League.

Lukaku has stated his ambition to play at a higher level during this international break, with his agent mentioning Bayern Munich, Paris St Germain and Juventus in passing.

However, Martinez says that such ambition is normal. Furthermore, the manager says that Everton share those ambitions. Hmm…

“Nothing will take away our focus on the next two months of the season. Romelu can help us make it an outstanding season,” Martinez said. The speculation and talking is because he is always performing well on the pitch.

“It’s not unsettling at all. That should be the aspiration of everyone to be as good as you can.

“Everton want to be in the Champions League. We want to be competing to win titles. We reached the semi-finals of the League Cup. We are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. We need players who can carry the expectations of the club.

“We shouldn’t be afraid of losing players because financially we can compete against anyone in world.”

Everton are currently 12th in the Premier League, and could fall as low as 15th this weekend.
