Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes Matteo Guendouzi’s Arsenal career is over.

The midfielder is currently on loan at Hertha Berlin after being dropped from the first team.

Manager Mikel Arteta couldn’t trust Guendouzi after a series of bust-ups in training and during matches.

The most famous of which was a clash with Brighton’s Neal Maupay.

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell said: “I do not think he will play for Arsenal again. He doesn’t have a future at Arsenal. Mikel Arteta put him in detention after the Brighton game last season, that is what it was – detention.

“A manager like Arteta wants to see that you can toe the line, take your punishment, keep your trap shut and get working. Guendouzi could not do it.

“He was given a clean slate at the start of the season, like Mezut Ozil, but they did not toe the line.

“Arteta is strong enough to exclude players he cannot trust. When a manager cannot trust you he is not going to back you.

“The good thing is they got him out on loan because you cannot afford to have ill-disciplined players like that in and around the club. The right thing was to get him out on loan.”

Guendouzi is determined to get his career back on track at the Emirates once he returns from Germany.

He said earlier this month that he needed ‘a new challenge’ and that ‘playing time was the top priority for me’.

But it’s not looking like the Frenchman will walk straight back into Arteta’s side.

They now have Thomas Partey as their first choice in central midfield. Mohamed Elneny is also appearing to have a resurgence this campaign.

Guendouzi was linked with some of Europe’s top clubs after impressing at Arsenal in the past.

But he will have to work hard if he is top reach the top in the near future.
