Mauricio Pochettino fuelled rumours that he could take over at Manchester United after being pictured with Ed Woodward’s new PR advisor Neil Ashton.

Pochettino, who took over at White Hart Lane in May 2014 after leaving Southampton, had guided the north London club to the Champions League final last season.

However, following a run of inconsistent form which saw them drop out of contention for the top four, the Argentinian was sacked by Spurs during November – and swiftly replaced by Jose Mourinho.

Before leaving Tottenham, the 47-year-old had previously been linked with Manchester United, as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The rumours linking him with a move to United have recently ramped up again with the Sunday Mirror claiming that Pochettino ‘hasn’t given up hope’ of taking over at Old Trafford next season.

And Pochettino poured petrol on the speculation on Tuesday when he was seen with Ashton during Sky Sports‘ live coverage of Brentford’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United in the Championship.

Ashton was appointed as a consultant by Man Utd executive vice-chairman Woodward last month but The Sun claims that Ashton was ‘at the game as a guest of Brentford’.

Although it sparked hysteria on social media, there is also a possible explanation for Pochettino’s appearance at Griffin Park with Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa a close friend of his.
