Kylian Mbappe is in the middle of a ‘split’ in the Paris Saint-Germain squad with the club’s Spanish-speaking players ‘angry’ over the French forward’s ‘privileged role’.
In May, the French club convinced Mbappe to snub Real Madrid and renew his contract.
He penned fresh terms lasting until 2025.
His contract is one of the most ludicrous in sport, with the 23-year-old being handed a weekly wage in the region of £700,000 and given the ability to assist with how the club is run.
Despite being given the keys to the club, the France international is reportedly unhappy in Paris and wants to leave as soon as possible.
After signing a new deal, Mbappe requested the signing of another central defender and a new No. 9 to play alongside him up front, so he would not have to operate as a lone striker, French media say.
The Ligue 1 champions failed to do this which has resulted in the player and club’s relationship completely breaking down.
PSG are remaining calm, however, with sporting director Luis Campos insisting Mbappe has not asked to leave.
The majority of the playing staff are not happy with the situation and do not appreciate essentially being a subordinate to Mbappe.
According to L’Equipe, discontent with Mbappe is continuing to grow throughout the squad.
Mbappe is becoming ‘increasingly isolated’ within the squad, with lots of his teammates unhappy with his attitude, which apparently changes on a weekly basis.
Neymar has notably struggled to see eye to eye with the 23-year-old and is pretty angry after the Frenchman said he wanted to leave.
The Brazilian superstar is joined by Marquinhos and other Spanish-speaking players in growing frustrated with Mbappe’s role and attitude.
One player who has always been close to Mbappe is Achraf Hakimi, and even he is beginning to lose patience with his pal.
It is believed that the former Monaco man does have the support of his French teammates Presnel Kimpembe, Nordi Mukiele, Hugo Ekitike and Hakimi, although it is fading.
Drama at the Parisien club has always been cited whenever they have been knocked out of the Champions League.
The closest the French champions have been to lifting the prestigious trophy was back in 2020, when Thomas Tuchel’s side were beaten by Bayern Munich in the final.
It is said that Mbappe’s mood often changes, but has especially deteriorated throughout this season.
A PSG insider reportedly said: “One day, he arrives at Camp des Loges, all smiles, jokes and greets everyone, and the next day, he arrives without a word, does not look at anyone.
“And it’s been like that since the beginning of the season.”
Teammates are ‘confused’ as to why Mbappe wants to leave given the level of power he has and how much money he is earning.
