Arsenal icon Robert Pires has told PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe why he should snub Real Madrid and sign for Liverpool instead this summer.

Mbappe is due to be out of contract at the end of this season and he has informed PSG that he will leave the Ligue Un giants upon the expiry of his current deal.

“He’s capable of rejecting Real Madrid…”

In recent months, the World Cup winner has been linked with several Premier League clubs with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City mooted as potential destinations.

But Real Madrid have always been his most likely next destination if he leaves PSG and it is being widely reported that this transfer is on the brink of being completed.

Reports linking Liverpool with Mbappe were fuelled by interest from the Saudi Pro League in Mohamed Salah but Pires thinks a partnership between the two players at Anfield would be “explosive”.

Pires has also boldly suggested that Mbappe is “capable of rejecting Real Madrid” as he “would like to see him at Liverpool”.

“I’m sorry Kylian, you weren’t the first to say no to Real Madrid,” Pires said in an interview with French outlet Media Carre.

“I don’t know what decision he will make, but I rejected Real because I had two other options. Surely if I didn’t have Arsenal and Juve, I would have gone straight to Real. That is sure.”

“Quite explosive”

Pires added: “I would like to see him at Liverpool. It’s a great club, family, good structure, no pressure, calm fans… And I tell myself that Mbappe and [Mohamed] Salah could be quite explosive. I think he is capable of rejecting Real Madrid.”

PSG head coach Luis Enrique recently claimed that Mbappe “could change his mind” about his future. Despite this, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is of the understanding that “nothing has changed”.

“Despite Enrique’s comments, I’m told that nothing has changed,” Romano told Caught Offside.

“From what I understand, Mbappe, nor anyone from his camp, has called PSG to inform them of a change of decision. There is no change there, and so PSG are continuing to work on their project for the future without Mbappe, while Mbappe keeps advancing negotiations with Real Madrid – no changes.

“Of course, the reality is still that Mbappe has still not signed the Real Madrid contract, so it’s not a done deal yet. Everything is going in the right direction, as I’ve kept on saying, it’s all going extremely well.

“The salary will be in line with what Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham earn, while the signing-on fee will be more than €100m, to be paid over the five years of his contract.
