McIntyre hails chairman

The Highlanders made a poor start to the campaign, which cost previous boss Derek Adams his position.

McIntyre helped to turn the season around, and the 2-1 victory over Hamilton Accies secured the club’s position in the Scottish Premiership – consigning Motherwell to the play-offs in the process.

Following the win, McIntyre, who took over with the team in trouble last September, said: “I’m absolutely delighted, also for the chairman.

“When we were appointed at the club we knew there was a bit to do – you need backing,” McIntyre said.

“He has given us unbelievable backing since we’ve come in – he’s not said no to anything we’ve asked for. We knew we needed investment in the squad and he has been fantastic.”

McIntyre concedes it was a nervy occasion as his side had to come from behind on a day when they were reduced to 10 men after Filip Kiss was shown a straight red card for a confrontation at a set-piece.

“We didn’t play our best today but we stuck at it. We ground out a result,” McIntyre said.

“We knew we needed to win the match, obviously the score from the Motherwell game (at St Mirren) filtered through so we knew Motherwell had scored. As soon as we got the second goal we stiffened the team up again. It was just a case of we were hard to break down and thankfully we saw it through.”

Hamilton boss Martin Canning felt his team chucked away their advantage in Dingwall.

Canning said: “It was disappointing. We were 1-0 up in the first half and pretty comfortable and very much in control. At half-time we asked the boys for more of the same in the second half. We took our foot off the pedal and allowed Ross County back into the game.

“There was a lot of pressure on Ross County to win the game and we were in a good position to relax and enjoy the match. I thought in the first half we did and we played with a bit of freedom.

“We had opportunities to break in the second half but we gave the ball away cheaply in good areas and I think if we had got the second goal it would have been a different match.”
