Paul Merson thinks Bernd Leno is doing a brilliant job at keeping Petr Cech out of the Arsenal starting XI.
The Germany international joined the Gunners from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer for a reported £22.5million and has established himself as the number one at the Emirates.
Cech started off the campaign in net for Unai Emery’s side but he hasn’t played a league match for Arsenal since getting injured against Watford two months ago.
And now Arsenal legend Merson thinks Cech is “a million miles away” from starting in the league for the Gunners.
“[Leno] is doing really well, isn’t he?” Merson told Sky Sports.
“He looks a good goalkeeper, he looks like he’s got a good temperament as well.
“He’s made some great saves. They’re always out of danger, he doesn’t gamble, he doesn’t go ‘oh I think he’s going to hit it there.’
“That’s reading the game to the highest level. He’s been outstanding, absolutely outstanding.
“There was talk when Cech got fit, people were wondering if he would come back in.
“But now you’re thinking that’s a million miles away at the moment. A million miles away.”
