Messi rumours continue as fresh report states World Cup hero is ‘willing to extend PSG contract’

Lionel Messi is ‘willing’ to extend his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, though ‘no negotiations have taken place’, according to The Athletic.
There have been a few conflicting reports regarding Messi’s future in the French capital.
Fabrizio Romano claimed on Wednesday that Messi and PSG have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ over a new deal.
However, Ben Jacobs called bulls*** on that, stating there is no agreement in place whatsoever.
The 35-year-old has been strongly linked with MLS club Inter Miami with his PSG contract expiring at the end of the season.
David Beckham’s Miami have been optimistic about their chances of landing the Argentine superstar.
Rumours have slowed down in recent weeks with the World Cup taking place.
Now the tournament is over and Messi has been crowned a world champion for the first time, there is a lot being said about his future once again.
And it appears that The Athletic are Team Jacobs, stating that ‘no negotiations have taken place’. Here We… No.
Jacobs stated that PSG are confident they will renew Messi’s contract, though club sources were said to be “very surprised” to see reports of a verbal agreement.
And the recent Athletic report states that Messi is ‘willing’ to extend his stay in Paris.
The 35-year-old is ‘happy with his surroundings’ and ‘wants to continue playing’ in France; which should be music to the ears of football fans, who will be able to see Messi continue in the Champions League, rather than the MLS Cup…
There is actually an option in Messi’s contract to extend his stay by a further year. Whether or not this is a club or player option is not stated.
Miami ‘had also been in discussions’ with the Barcelona legend and ‘numerous meetings’ have taken place with his father, Jorge.
Messi moved to PSG in the summer of 2021 after he was forced to leave Barcelona due to their financial troubles.
After a disappointing debut season in Paris, the attacker is back to his best this term, which was evident during Argentina’s World Cup triumph in Qatar.
Lots of fans were extremely happy to see Messi finally get his hands on the World Cup trophy.
Many believe he is now the undisputed greatest footballer to ever live, ahead the likes of Diego Maradona, Pele, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Possibly the best thing to come from Messi winning the tournament, however, is that he now has the most-liked Instagram post of all time.
Messi surpassed an egg. Yes, an egg. A picture of an egg and only an egg.
The post of him holding the World Cup is currently on 71 million likes at the time of writing. That beats an eighth Ballon d’Or, if you ask me.
